Mauricio Gonzalez, Tinaja 2021

Mauricio Gonzalez is part of the Asociación de Productores de Vino Campesino de Chile, a group of four winemakers who all practice organic farming within the wine regions of the Secano Interior. Devoted to low intervention winemaking, they are committed to revitalising the local heritage of indigenous grape varieties and general funky old-school winemaking. Tinaja 2021 is an awesome orange wine made from 100% Muscatel de Alejandria, a grape which really benefits from skin contact. Grown in a cool climate vineyard, the vines are around 80 years old and the wine goes through ageing in an amphorae; a combination which makes the wine subtle but at the same time nicely textured. Heaps of white flowers, citrus and vibrancy; this is a great wine to pair with Thai food.
